Wall OptionPlaycall: 11 Wall, 19 Wall Backfield action: The Wall Option starts exactly like the Huskers trademark 34/36 Trap. The quarterback opens toward the play with a reverse pivot, opening a path for the fullback. After the fake to the FB, the QB proceeds down the line on the option. The I-back pauses for a second to maintain a proper pitch relationship. Blocking: Just like the backfield shows trap at the start of a Wall option, the line also shows this. The backside guard pulls to trap a defensive lineman on playside or to climb the hole and block a linebacker. Formations: Nebraska needs a dive back to run Wall option, but not necessarily a two-back set. This is the option that Osborne called most often from the Double Wing set. Companion Plays: The most obvious companion is the trap itself: 34/36 trap (see right middle). Another play added in 1997 for Scott Frost has also become a dangerous part of this package: 34/36 Quarteback Keep (see right below). On the QB Keep, the trap is faked and the QB starts down the line like on Wall Option. But the I-back doesn't follow his pitch path. Instead he leads the QB through the off-tackle hole in what becomes an isolation play for the QB. |
