Wide along with Tight and Pro forms the base Husker formations. Most teams would call this a twins set because of the two receivers. The Wide name comes from when I-formation was the basic Husker set with the WB just off the tackle on the SE side. To form this set then he was the only one moved and he moves "wide". This is an effective set for the Huskers because it offers power to the TE side and dangerous perimeter blocking possibilities and pass pattern combinations to the wide side. The Huskers are more likely to run optiontoward the two receivers than away. The diagram to the right is a bit deceptive as, currently, WB Bobby Newcome is more likely to occupy the SE spot near the tackle and on the line, with SE Matt Davison lined up wide and off the line. |
